FAQ

Questions, answered

Short, honest answers to the things people ask most. Tap a question to open it.

Do I need the original game?

Yes. Pocket Nebula comes with nothing from the original games. You add a copy of a cartridge you own, and the app builds everything it needs from that copy, right on your computer.

Is this an emulator?

No. An emulator pretends to be the old console and runs the game inside it. Pocket Nebula rebuilds the game itself so it runs directly on your computer, like any other app.

That is what makes it quick to start, smooth to play and easy to mod.

Which games can I play?

The first generation comes first: Red, Blue and Yellow. The second and third generations are next in line, and the rest follow one step at a time.

The games page always shows where each game stands.

Can I play on Windows or Mac?

Not yet. Linux comes first, and Windows and Mac are planned once the first games are ready.

Can I use a controller?

Yes. The app is built for gamepads first, and a keyboard and mouse work just as well.

Does it cost anything?

No. Pocket Nebula is free. It is a fan project, made for the love of these games.

Can I help?

Not yet. The source isn’t public yet. When it opens up, this page will say how to get involved.
